Alimentos saudáveis
Enquanto passeava aqui pelo mundo da internet que tanto tem para nos oferecer descobri um site que nos indicava alguns alimentos saudáveis que devem fazer parte da nossa alimentação e decidi partilhar com vocês:
Super-healthy food choice: Onions
Why it’s so good for you: A little onion breath and eye-watering never hurt anyone! Two big studies — one published in the journal Nature, the other in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry — found that eating onions will help build strong bones. There's also good news for asthma and hay fever sufferers: This sweet-tasting vegetable is a chock-full of quercetin, an anti-inflammatory compound that also contains anti-allergic properties. "Quercetin is associated with beneficial effects on chronic diseases like cancer and heart disease," says Bowden.
Super-healthy food choice: Blueberries
Why they're so good for you: Not only are blueberries, both fresh and frozen, known for being the ultimate brain food (because of polyphenols, special compounds derived from plants), but they also scored big-time in the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) rating system of antioxidant power. "The ORAC rating tells you how much protection and value antioxidants and phytochemicals give you as a group in a particular food," explains Bowden. "Blueberries are the highest-scoring fruit of all time."

Super-healthy food choice: Spinach
Why it’s so good for you: This green, leafy vegetable contains 13 flavonoids — antioxidants found naturally in plants — with anticancer properties. It's also a great source of iron and can prevent numerous conditions, such as vision loss (thanks to the carotenoid lutein), colon cancer, age-related brain problems, heart attack and stroke (all because of the vitamin C–beta carotene combo). "And spinach is one of the best sources of vitamin K, a lesser-known vitamin which is critically important for building strong bones," says Bowden.

Super-healthy food choice: Kiwi
Why it’s so good for you: Kiwi is one of the most underrated health foods. "Because of their rich array of disease-fighting antioxidants and phytonutrients, [kiwis] are often prescribed in yoga nutritional therapy to help fight cancer and heart disease," says Dr. Khalsa. And the science backs him up: A study published in the medical journal Carcinogenesis found that kiwifruit has the ability to repair cellular damage. Also, research at the University of Oslo in Norway says that kiwi has been proven to improve heart health by working as a blood thinner. Finally, "kiwi has the highest level of vitamin C, almost twice that of an orange," says Bowden.

Super-healthy food choice: Pineapple
Why it’s so good for you: Just one cup of this juicy yellow fruit contains nearly 100 percent of the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of manganese, a trace mineral necessary for healthy skin, bones and cartilage formation, as well as glucose tolerance. But pineapple's secret weapon is bromelain, a rich source of enzymes that has plenty of health benefits: It aids digestion, heals wounds and reduces inflammation. "It's also a natural blood thinner, as it prevents excessive blood-platelet stickiness," adds Bowden.

Super-healthy food choice: Alaskan wild sockeye salmon
Why it’s so good for you: All salmon is not created equal. Wild salmon caught directly from the ocean is a phenomenal source of high-quality protein (3 ounces contain 18 grams of protein, 360 mg of potassium, more than half of the RDA for vitamin B12 and almost half the RDA of the cancer-fighting mineral selenium) and is oozing with omega-3s, a group of three fatty acids that are beneficial for heart and brain health, along with inflammation, circulation, memory, thought and blood sugar control. Farm-raised salmon, however, contains very few omega-3s and may contain antibiotics, since farmers inject the fish with these drugs to control fast-spreading diseases. "I've gotten into the habit of asking at restaurants, 'Is it wild?'" says Bowden. "If it’s not, I don't order it."
